(He/him) 2025
My name is Thomas Okello, and I am a disability rights advocate and the founder of the Today’s Moving Amputees (TOMA) Foundation in Uganda. I am passionate about creating inclusive and supportive spaces where persons with disabilities can live with dignity and independence.
As a person with disability lived experience (an amputee), my experience has inspired me to build TOMA Foundation as a community where no one feels left behind. Today, TOMA provides safe spaces for marginalized groups, including those who identify as LGBTQ+ persons with disabilities, while advocating for inclusion, equality, and respect for human rights in Uganda. Our work focuses on rehabilitation, health, skills training ( economic empowerment ) counselling, and advocacy with objective of restoring hope and empowering individuals to rebuild their lives.
I also currently serve as the National Board Member of Global Care UK and Uganda, representing persons with disabilities, and I previously worked with the Infectious Diseases Institute at Makerere University to promote inclusive health programs as Programs Officer and M&E Specialist.
I believe leadership grows from lived experience and a commitment to service. My goal is to keep breaking barriers and ensuring that every person, regardless of disability, gender, identity, is treated with respect and given the opportunity to thrive.
